I did say that I have some interest in politics, and that I would write on the subject. Between school and work I don’t have the most time in the world to keep up to date on everything that goes on in the world, but I did manage to spot this tidbit a few months ago (courtesy of digg) . McCain is of course styling himself to be the inevitable GOP candidate, and so this is timely at least in the sense that it says something of his real character. As a corollary one could take the position that it also says something about neoconservatism in general. Namely, that it tends to foster a form of governance and an ideology that has some inherently racist characteristics. Of course, it is O’Reilly, and not McCain that makes the most contentious statements during the following video excerpt, but McCain’s lack of reaction speaks volumes.

Its been awhile, christmas, new years, and all of that… We ended up in Wilmington, NC, instead of Long Beach. There were car problems, and heaps of stress all in the week just before we were supposed to leave for our road-trip. One alternator, an oxygen sensor, and a $90 Honda dealership diagnostic later we had had it. Soooo, eastward it was, first to West Virginia to see family and then to Wilmington to see more family (and ocean, and warmth, and very good food). Needless to say there is nothing quite like standing in the ocean on christmas day (even if the water is mildly chilly and not quite like bath water). I am looking forward to moving to Wilmington, and can’t wait for the end of this semester. Graduation party will be in Wilmington, your welcome to attend the ceremony in Kansas City, but I probably won’t be there.

So recently…

I’ve just been doing a lot of the same… work, school, sleep. But I’m starting to do some planning, we I should say (me and Jess); because after this coming semester I’ll officially be out of an occupation. First in the order of business will be to set foot on sweet Canadian soil, visit the good peoples of the lower mainland, drink some beer not made with High Fructose Corn Syrup (I sort of assume that’s what they make it with here, since everything else is made with it), and kick back and breath it all in verrry deeply. Because when we get back we’ll be moving to Wilmingdon, North Carolina.

I’m not sure what I’ll be getting into after that, tucked neatly under one arm will be mon baccalauréat universitaire.  Being faced with the possibility of simply having to find any kind of work that will get me by is not my favorite pastime. So at this point I am thoroughly dedicated to creating the possibility of some opportunity which might vaguely resemble what I would most like to do (namely, learning how to surf, painting, and loving life). By spring I should have a gallery show, and before then some Tshirts printed up…

So recently Andrew and Julianne came to visit. Being that they are Canadian I wanted to treat Andrew (Julianne wasn’t near as interested) to the oddity which is America’s casual affinity for shooting. Most Americans won’t find this to be particularly unusual, but to any Canadian, the idea of simply walking into a shooting range and being handed a firearm is a little surreal. Anyhow, it was good times, and I recommend it, but please be safe and follow your local laws and regulations when exercising your own civil liberties (otherwise you’ll spoil it for the rest of us).

May be extremely difficult for me. I am a student and this would qualify as having my eggs in more than 10 baskets, or something. Of course I won’t be a student forever, and then I think me and blog will get along just fine. Keep your peepers on this space because it is sure to get better with age…
